I’m sure everyone reading this will know many of the hits created that are played daily still today. David signs new club album to SONY / EMI and “Disco Fizz” album to Beats Bakery making this the 4th album signing in 2 years.

From David:

“This is a proud moment in my music career. From earliest memories as a young boy watching my Father play his Fender telecaster and Stratocaster i was hooked and learnt from him to play Guitar. My first taste of crowd interaction was performing at my schools music festival aged just 15. Up against strong competition i won and came joint first with a pianist. Playing to a packed school hall to the families and teachers i knew this was my future! Having a love of tech and gadgets, like most boys, i picked up a cheap midi keyboard and learnt how to write using an early version of Cubase. SONY and EMI were names to admire. I couldn’t imagine signing to them but with gradual deals over the years and with help and recommendations and sheer determination this dream has been finally realised. It’s not about money. A record deal doesn’t ensure that; only if people buy the music! But, it’s an accomplishment that i am very proud of as it is no small feat to sign an album to a major label. SONY and EMI merged in 2012 making them the biggest record label in the world”.

However, he is now playing Saturday nights at a small venue in Brighton called “Le Village” (in High St off St James St) house set from 8pm – 12am. No dancing, table service only. A small trendy bar with three area’s. A chance to enjoy some class tunes in a great atmosphere. The bar is at capacity every Sat so any visitors are advised to book a table ahead.

March 2020

David just manages to book an emergency flight home as coronavirus hits hard just as he arrives in France for a week of gigs. With a 4 hour journey to the airport and people ditching taxi’s and running along the motorway with cases to get across the border, this was a scary time! Easyjet were fantastic and squeezed David onto a flight to Gatwick – the last seat literally available at Geneva. David was gutted as he was due to headline an hour after arrival but the whole event was cancelled just as he landed. With the hotels asking guests to leave and nothing open, in freezing conditions this was not fun!

Main Bio

Hailing from Brighton, UK DJ / Producer David Noakes (born Gary David Noakes) remixes and tunes can be heard across the world in films, adverts, tv, clubs and radio stations such as: Kiss FM, Capital FM, Gaydio, Energy FM and also brand compilations such as Cream, Pacha, Creamfields and many more. Under his Noaksey guise David’s “Red sky” tune https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GuEvwRu7oI was supported by The Magician (and played in his opening Miami WMC set in 2016 (see a video here https://www.facebook.com/noakseyofficial/videos/569293546568406 Martin Garrix, Oliver Heldens, Mike Mago, Pep N Rash, 99 Souls and many more.

David’s tunes notch up Shazam’s in the thousands weekly and his Years and Years “King” bootleg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0hOvHzcJbI  was featured on Don Diablo’s Hex radio show and Kiss Fm’ with Andi Durrant. After signing a confidentiality agreement it also made it onto YouTube’s official ad for the new YouTube music streaming service. The remix had already had over 100,000 plays at this point with no marketing – not a single pound spent – 962000 plays on Soundcloud alone before he took it down due to the ongoing copyright disputes between Soundcloud, record labels and Soundcloud strikes at that time. Many YouTube users have made their own videos to the remix and they too have had thousands of plays. All this interest put David on the map in many ways as he had not made a bootleg remix before. He spent only 3/4 hours creating it never expecting it to garner the huge interest it did; it was merely a tool to make the radio version club friendly. David is a keen fan of adding to the original – making it club friendly for DJ’s, giving it that extra push to enhance not replace, to add not take away… like the classic remixers of the past, Moto Blanco, The Freemasons, Rhythm Masters –  but with a modern twist – rather than removing all original ideas and creating a different track which fans of the original cannot relate to.

David’s remixes are very popular. From release they spread fast and can be heard all over the world and feature in podcasts, DJ download music sites, Shazam etc. They often chart on Hypedit, DJ city and more. An experienced DJ across all formats, David holds two residencies in his home town of Brighton and is also booked for international gigs. Last year he worked abroad with 90’s band Black Box this year he flies out for a week of DJ’ing on mountain tops “Apres Ski” and in clubs in Tignes for European Snow Pride, https://www.europeansnowpride.com opening ESP with FRAGMA. This came about having been spotted by DJ Little Nemo of Paris France and European Snow Pride resident DJ who, unknown to David at the time, was dancing to his set in a capacity filled dance tent in Preston Park, at Brighton Pride in 2017. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crcb5EbTots

David learnt Guitar as a young boy and joined several bands as a Guitarist/singer and won Seaford Heads Festival of music aged 15. He went onto teach himself MIDI programming and studio production with the help and collaborations of long time friend Grant Ransom while both still lived at home producing out of bedrooms. Grant went onto become producer for Julian Lennon son of course of Beatle John and has worked with many huge bands since including U2. Combining his musical abilities with his love of dance music and programming led David to his first record contract a vinyl release in his teen’s as Gary N – “Nexus” a collaboration with Grant. Every so often they pair up for collaborations and work on various albums.

As well as Dj’ing and producing for himself his remixes are sought after by many top artists. This year in 2019 his first official remix of the year is for Lee Dagger of Bimbo Jones. The pair also DJ’d together at David’s Brighton residency Legends basement club when Lee flew over from Vegas for a special one off in Feb. David is choosy on remixing “quality over quantity” and strives for musicality over repetitive beats

Early in his career David remixed, then went onto collaborate co/write with KC & The Sunshine band, two songs for their new album. He remixed The Village people which became their comeback tour single. He then worked with 80’s legend (and still topping USA charts) Paul Hardcastle on several projects. Other official production credits quickly followed: Seamus Haji, Jason Derulo, Shena, Hysteric Ego, Bimbo Jones, Kay Jay, Andrea Britton to name just a few.

David also writes and produces for others and in 2016 had a no.1 hit in Japan with female supergroup “Happiness” as well as many TV and film placements. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c44o5gvoIG8 This also featured on their no.1 album “Girlz N’ Effect” as a bonus track with “Sexy young beautiful” the album peaked at 15 on the Billboard top album sales chart and no.5 in the Japanese Oricon official chart.

Since then he has worked on many production music projects and albums behind the scenes. Last year he signed a 90’s dance album with 10 original 90’s flavoured club tracks. His latest album this year released in Jan 2019 (as Gary Noakes) is a collection of original nu disco tracks and was signed with Score through BMG (UK) & APM (USA). Last year, his cover of Jamelia’s “Superstar” featuring the vocals of Brighton based “Cherry” was released by DSR records and hit the iTunes chart also featuring across many playlists. A year on and many DJ’s are still playing this in their current sets. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgQVgm3sNIU HEAR MORE REMIXES: Mark Ronson ft Miley Cyrus – Nothing breaks like a heart (David Noakes remix) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAvf9HTorMw Major Lazer Ft DJ Snake – Lean on (David Noakes remix) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzcMBDDIpeo Seal – Crazy (David Noakes remix) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSFac1DUKoo Years & Years – Shine (David Noakes remix) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdH4GS7afHc
